Top right panel: the term "pogie" is a Canadian term denoting our employment insurance (formerly known as unemployment insurance). I guess it's synonymous with the "dole" in the UK.

The bottom two panels are an obvious spoof of This Old House. I remember really enjoying the show at the time, from the folksy interaction between Norm and Steve (this was after Bob Vila left the show) as well as the soothing melodies of the theme music.

There's also a very brief Pepsi-bashing comment between the two characters watching TV. If I haven't mentioned it before, I am a Coke man. I can't stand Pepsi. Many people say "what's the difference?" but don't even get me started.
