Issue 4 - p. 3 - The Boy With the Trapdoor Mouth
This story was a lot of fun to write and draw. As you can see by the style, it's not a typical comic with panels and speech balloons, but still combines words and pictures to tell a story. I got my inspiration from a puzzle we had as children which followed the exact same premise: tiny little drawings representing key characters, places, things, etc.
The curly things around the title were (I believe) inspired from some Gustav Klimt paintings. I'm quite a fan of Klimt and have used and re-used this type of motif many times throughout Bubonix. Try to find more of these if I fail to point them out!
At that time, I had very little in the way of computer equipment to help me with the typesetting, etc. So I literally typed the story with a wordprocessing software, printed up on hardcopy, cut up the sentences with scissors, then glued them onto my illustration board. I then filled in the drawings. A lot of fun, and very messy with the glue.
